Vinterparken – Winter park Östersund
In the middle of winter Östersund and Frösön grow enormously when the ice on Lake Storsjön has set, providing the basis for a huge winter sports park for everyone who likes snow, ice and winter in all its forms.
Just a few steps down from the town centre; here are the city ramblers who have dropped in for a coffee and people-watching. Here are the sun-lovers stretched out in deck chairs. Out on the ice the children are having fun in the largest ice-skating park in all of Sweden with various exciting features. Further out on the frozen lake there is a criss-cross of tracks, with groomed tour-skating courses, cross-country ski tracks and marked pedestrian lanes stretching for more than 50 km on the large Lake Storsjön.
Vinterparken is open during the period January to April and the arena expands as the ice grows thicker. During the weekends and the holiday period the park is vibrant with life and activities such as horse-drawn sleigh rides, snowmobile safaris, ice-sculpturing workshops, ice-skating races and much more; most of the activities are free.
Ever since the start in 1997, Vinterparken is operated by Storsjöyran AB, on behalf of Östersund Local Authority.
